First 100 Books seeks to revitalize literacy for the 21st Century by building on the languages, values, customs, and history of Indigenous communities. We partner with tribes, schools, and non-profit organizations to empower parents and community members as partners in holistic literacy education. In this way, families–the heart of every community–can  take a proactive role in guiding their children along the path of life long learning. Meaningful, sustainable progress results from the intentional, long-term effort by the whole community.

Celebrate Culture

We work with Indigenous communities individually and in regional Writers Workshops to create picture books with recognizable subjects and locations that celebrate local language and culture.

Share Language

We support Native speakers to revitalize their language by translating and narrating culturally appropriate early childhood topics into digital and print picture books.

Build Literacy

We provide family engagement tools that support parents and caregivers to develop their own literacy skills, academic self-confidence, and knowledge of how to interact with children in a reading experience.
